The main purpose of an in person inspection is to verify the condition of the vehicle. I will inspect the engine, interior, exterior and chassis. Each of the four categories will be graded on a 6 point condition scale. I will be looking for appearance, leaks, cracks, wear and repair.
We will ask the owner to start the engine and check for smoke, leaks or odd sounds. Operation of gauges will be confirmed.
The mileage as shown and any special features or modifications will be noted.
The tire brand, model and production dates will be documented if visible. Excessive wear will be noted. Visible blemishes or damage to wheels will be noted.
Turn signals, head lights, radio, fans, air conditioning, horn etc. will be checked. All doors, trunk, glove box, gas cap will be opened. The owner will be asked to show the spare tire, car jack and tool kit if applicable. When possible I will confirm “matching numbers” of engine and body etc.
The paint and body condition will be visually inspected. Glass and lenses will be inspected for cracks or delamination. Condition of chrome or metal trim will be noted.
I will ask the owner to see maintenance records and any other documentation on the vehicle if available.
